|
|
I've been reading a few threads across different web forums and it seems there are a few people sending reptiles via courier or via royal mail. Royal Mail do not accept live reptiles and it is breaking the law to send or receive reptiles by Royal Mail.
Can you ALL make sure you confirm the method of delivery if you have ordered reptiles from someone. The ONLY courier that I know of that will deliver live reptiles is TNT. They do NOT deliver live reptiles for everyone as they are quite selective about giving out animal accounts etc. So when you do have a reptile delivered, CHECK that the box is correctly labelled with LIVE REPTILE not live insects!!! Hiding what the contents of the boxes are is a sure sign that they courier was NOT told of the contents!
It's tricks like this that WILL lead to a ban of reptiles being sent by courier which would be a great shame as overall reptiles that are correctly boxed and couriered arrive perfectly safe and well and suffer NO adverse effects from the journey.
DO NOT LET THESE COWBOYS RUIN IT FOR EVERYONE! _________________

Quite right. The only legal animal via Royal mail are insects as far as I know. _________________ www.rickslivefood.co.uk

Any one who sends a reptile without stating the facts is endangering the animal and really should not be in this hobby IMO
If you cant get a friend with a TNT account to help out use the reptile taxi
or meet half way do not risk ruining it for the rest of us .... _________________

Too right! I've had well known keepers (frogs) preach this and then the next week send me anmals via RM! not a good thing....
TNT, reptile taxi or even a nut case via train are the only way of doing it _________________ Paul

Taken direct from RM's restricted section (the stuff they allow):
Living creatures
Bees, Leeches, Pupae and Chrysalides, Caterpillars, Lugworms, Rag worms, Earthworms, Maggots, Silkworms, Fish fry and Eggs, Mealworms, Crickets, certain Parasites and destroyers of Noxious Pests, and some other insects sent between recognised institutions are allowed. You must use boxes that protect both the creatures and Royal Mail staff from harm. Use First Class as the minimum service and clearly label the package as "URGENT - LIVING CREATURES". Mark the sender's name and address on the outer wrapping.
POINT TO NOTE: I used to send small fish and fry, but they seem to have clamped this down too, as was rehoming some young platies which were promptly returned to me with a note that only bees, crickets and cockroaches were allowed to be sent through the system. (Which clearly is incorrect, as shown above!) _________________

Thanks for highlighting this Scott. As keepers, we have a responsibility to ensure that any animals we buy are sent legally and humanely. _________________

If it helps I can offer the use of my livestock account with TNT for third party collection and delivery. Contact me via PM for details. _________________ www.rickslivefood.co.uk
