No idea how many I started with but got to be less than 10% of what is now in each breeding bin (got about 6 bins now). They are fed a high protein dog biscuit. Probably had them ticking over for a year to 18 months.

The only other roach I have are B. dubia, these are good but way slow compared to the red runners (in terms of breeding) neither species can climb smooth side.

i AM GETTING PEED OFF WITH CRIX, THEY ESCAPE ALL THE TIME AND RUN AROUND THE HOUSE CHIRPING EVERYWHERE!

They stink, take ages to grow to a decent size and are quite labour intensive, so am debating whether to switch to roaches as the main staple, lobsters are my choice, as soft bodied and full of protein, and take little husbandry to rear. No escapes as I just smear Vaseline around tank top. They dont smell either.

Concentrate on increasing my locust production to.

Then breed a few crix and just buy some bulk now and then.

When you say bins do you literally mean large plastic type dustbins that you keep them in? or contico type storage bins?

Any advice or thoughts on this Scott please?

I use deep plastic tub, 18". I put an inch of damp peat on the base then 'jam' it full with egg carton stacked back to back. I then lay 1 piece of carton across the top and fill that with water every other day and throw a handful of dog food in each week.....that's it.

You can treat crickets identical to that but don't bother with the peat base, just put egg tubs in to collect eggs, crickets shouldn't be any more work than roaches.

You've got Red Runners haven't you Scott ? I imported mine from the States as there seemed a lot of confusion about the species and the name (see Dave's post).

They breed like mad !!! And eat anything !!
