Chris,among my menagerie, I have a pink tongued skink,(I may get him a tank mate, at some point!) which is very easy to handle, look after, and feed.
They are much smaller than blue tonges, and if handled regularly, become very tame.
Most feed well, (mine seems to be fussy, however!), and they dont need massive vivs either.
They dont seem to express personality like my beardie, but hes a nice animal.
They do enjoy a viv, with more open spaces, as opposed to lots of decoration.

Did you say you saw a crested gecko for £200?
Please, dont believe this is the average price for them and let it put you off them...this was probably either a stunning rare morph and/or an over-zealous pet shop.
Can pick nice cresties up for around £70.

What about a collard lizard? they don't get very big, and mostly are pretty handle able....and pretty.
