Ok, odd post really. The GF would like to get something she / we can handle. It cant be to big, so sadly beadies etc out of the question. I first suggested a snake, but she wont allow mice in the house!
What lizard would you suggest, so I can start planning and building.

My ideas were- leo / fat tailed or crestie. Any other ideas?

But other than what you've already thought of, how about Rankins? Or some of the smaller species of skink? Not sure about the handleability though.. I've seen berber skinks and apparently they become tame quite quickly.. but I think it would be more a case of letting it have a run on the floor or something rather than physically handling it like you would with a crestie. Smile

alwite i was in same position as yourselves,thought about beardie then saw an adult and found to big for me{bit of wimp really}lol!then looked into a rankin dragon,basically the same as beardie but minus the beard and only grows to 12"max,i have mine in 36" viv which im told is big enough for two ive had her a couple of months now shes really friendly and loves being handled.if you want any info get in touch with jas hes on this site www.reptilebreeder.co.uk,he keeps rankins and geckos and is very helpful and am sure hell point you in right direction.good luck with your choice.a pic of mine bout 7 weeks old Very Happy

I had a beardie in the past, great animal. but just the size thing, so rankin could be a good idea.

Jojo, do you have any pics of your cresties / setup? Guessing thats a crestie in you avitar pic?

I only have pics of the setup from when I first got Spud, she's moving to a larger viv soon but she's currently in the same tank.. just it looks a lil different now... If you did get a baby crestie though, I would say go for a smaller setup to start with..

Spud looks wicked, cheers JoJo. Am I reading this right (and from looking @ your pics etc), that no additional heating is required as long as the house isnt too cold??

How handlable are they? was considering some sort of handlable lizard as something more like a pet... Also, how nocturnal are they? My tiger sals are "nocturnal" but will come out in the day, wheras my whites tree frogs (and my friends sugar glider) are all STRICTLY nocturnal. Am getting four vivs set up soon mainly for dart frogs, but was thinking cresties might do ok in one... they are two double vivs-one containing two 15 x 18 x 24" vivs and one having two 18x 18 x 24" vivs. It would also help me get that little bit more experience with reptiles, as am hoping to have herps as an extra string to my bow when i qualify as a vet. Would they be fine with heat just from a heatmat and light, the same way I do my darts? And do they nibble on planst at all? would ideally set up a naturalistic looking viv... (sorry to hijack your thread chris!)

Crestie's will do fine with no heat depending on how cold your house is but a small heat lamp will fix that although a heat mat wont make a big difference as they dont spend much time on the floor. They like brances and leaves but space to jump around. Sam a 15 x 18 x 24" will be big enough for one or two. Another option similar to cresties but just as nice is gargoyle gecko's they are the same family as rhacs just a bit different.
If you wont more info have a good read through the rhacodactylus forum there are loads of great info there.

Thanks...after checking out local pet shops (£200!!!!) and the far more reasonable "Ricks Reptiles (£92 posted...beat that!) I have decided that these are a bit beyond my budget at the momet, so may just stick to darts. A petshop I saw had five lined skinks, orange tailed skinks, Bibrons geckos and wonder geckos at reasonable (£10-£20) prices, but not sure these really meet what I was looking for.
