I am looking into getting a male bassie for my female but I've been told I need a very large viv so that if the male ever decides to turn on my girl she has enough room to get away alright. She's currently in a viv measuring 3ft x 2ft x 2ft, so I was just wondering what size viv I should get for when I have the male. Thanx. |

There's a basic care sheet here:http://www.triciaswaterdragon.com/basilisk.htm
From what I understand, their requirements are very similar to that of water dragons.
Hopefully someone who keeps bassies will be able to give you a better answer to your question. _________________

i'd say give them at least a 4x4x2 [lxhxw] with plenty of branches and plants.
i always found my basilisks would lay eggs in the roots of potted plants so always had a decent sized pot plant in with them. |

I used to breed the plumed a long time ago and lost both my females to the male i had the trio in a 6x3x2 viv, i found them to be quite prolific and an increase in humidity seemed to stimulate breeding, i bred them for two years and then came home one day to find both females dead and badly mutilated, the advice you have been given is good, as well as the usuall viv decor it would be a good idea to put in a cork bark tube so the female can get refuge if she needs to. I dont want you to be put off by what happened with mine, like i said for two years they got along fine, Good luck with them they are great lizards. _________________ www.Reptilebreeder.co.uk
