arborealad,

This is an EU Directive or Regulation, can’ remember which, irrespective which it’s yet another piece of draconian legislation emanating from the EU. However, you are right to a degree it is largely unenforceable. BUT and the big but it is there and you could get caught, if you do and it’s your business [reptile trade] the implications are very severe. I would think the border crossing and the most likely place for this to be enforced, or inspected!!

Jas,

All REPTA members have been granted ‘Approved Transporter’ status, no one had any difficulties, and I should point out you are approved not licensed! Quite what the difference is I am not sure! To be fair to DEFRA they did not want to impose this on the reptile industry but had very limited options.

Essentially just filing in a very simple form! There are two kinds of Transporter Authorization, under 8 hours and over 12 hours, most go for the under 8 hours. It is very simple to just fill the form in return it to DEFRA and you will receive a certificate within a couple of weeks, its free and lasts for 5 years. Below is the link to the relevant information.

Just completed my own form, seemed like a bit of a pointless paper excerise.
