Can anyone tell me please how long it takes; from putting waxies in a culture jar with food mixture and egg laying material etc to the hatching of the eggs?

Cheers Rick

It varies Rick, in the summer months its quicker- obviously. I looked in my latest culture thats dated 12/1 and i can see little waxies crawling all over the inside of the sweet jar. This culture has just been left to stand in the rep room but inside a box to keep it dark. With a magnyfying glass you can see the egg clusters they are white and always laid in a hexagon shape. Patience my son, patience! Love Jan

Wo hoooooooooooooo some of my waxies have turned into moths that I placed in a culture tub. The ones I put in were adult waxies and some chryssalis. Well it excites me as I have not bred them b4. Very Happy

waxworms are great to breed, you can't help but breed too many and depending on the diet you use they can taste lovely Wink

I used to put a block of the culture (food & grubs) in with day geckos, they would eat the caterpillars they could find but the fun started when the moths hatch out and the geckos jump all over the cage trying to catch them.

Hi Rick, how did you get on with the cultures of waxworms? are you still breeding them? if so will you tell me the recipe for the food you feed them or do you buy from websites?
Thanks Rob

I dont breed them anymore, to fidly to time consuming and a lot of hassle for a few hundred worms. I dont buy livefood, but I do supply livefood including waxworms Laughing
