Hello,
I was hoping you all would participate in gathering some information for a future article. Simply reply to the post using the number of the question and supply your answer to each. Please answer only that which you have personal knowledge; of not what you have" heard".
Please also limit your answer to the question, try not to elaborate or split hairs.
It would be great to see a huge response to this and I will be sure to post the article here!

1) How many living things do you currently have that can be classified as Herps?
Lets see: three marbled newt juves, four tiger sals, eight firebellied toads, two whites tree frogs, three Dendrobates leucomelas and four epipedobates hahneli. That makes 20 (although am getting 4 red backed salamanders in a couple of days)
2)What is the size and type of your living quarters?(ex- 2 bdrm apt or 4 bdrm house)
I rent a room in a house of five students. My room is maybe 16 feet squared?
3)How many humans live in these quarters with you?
I am the only one in my room, but there are 5 of us in the house
4)What is the largest and smallest amount of money you have spent on the aquisition of any one herp? ( animal only)
Largest= £35 for a tiger sal (first herp)
Smallest - £0 for marbled newt juves, or £7.55 for fire bellied toad
5) What is the length of time between when you got the first one and the latest one?
about six months
6)Where do you obtain supplies( not including food)?
a- online b-local independent pet store c- large chain pet store
some online, some i find all over the place. Even random shops have things of use to a herptophile!
7) Where do you obtain food?
a- online b- home raised c-local pet store d- large chain pet store
e-other/grocery store

How much time do you spend each day USUALLY caring for your herps?
Probably about an hour just with feeding/misting...if that. Spend alot of time watching and photographing, and can spend a whole day setting up tanks etc.
9) How much time do you spend USUALLY handling your herps for fun per day?
None-very very bad for phibians
10)What is the size of the smallest enclosure you have and the size of the largest?
smallest is temp boxes for newtlings- about 6 inch by 4 inch. Largest is tiger tank- 48 inch long
11) What was your first herp?
female tiger sal
12) What is the newest herp?
Dartfrogs, soon to be red backed sals
13) What herp do you want to aquire that you do not have?
any of the ensinatas, a large number of dartfrogs... Neuregus kaisseri and Tylotriton shanjing
14)Where do you purchase your herps from most of the time?
a- small breeder b- large breeder/online c-local pet store d- large chain pet store e- adoption/ rescue

never have, no need to

Not applicable

Never-although have passed animals on to my father as he was starting with them-not the same as offloading though.

I wouldnt mind some small geckos at some point in the future...

hey, aren't you from the other reptile forum, wait, i don't think i'm aloud to say the name of it on here. (its the one with everything green and doug is the webmaster?). any way here are my answers:
1) three
2) a five bedroom house (my room is 12x12) i live with my family i don't own the house!
3)there are seven counting me, 8 when my sister visits
4) $50 for a bp and $0 for a leopard gecko
5) about two years
6) usually c, sometimes b
7) d (all of the above lol)
about 45 minutes
9) an hour each at most ( i have 2 leos and one chinese water dragon)
10) 10 gallon and 75ish gallon
11)some wild snake i caught when i was 6 (i kept it for like a week, does that count? if not it was a ball python.)
12) a water dragon
13) a mali uromastyx
14)Petco or petsmart ( the ones around me actally take pretty good care of the reptiles)
15) no ( i probably will if i get an uromastyx cause impaction isn't a big risk for them) b) i used to keep my leo on sand but now i know better

Just a quick point if I may
When you collate your results for your article, and have results, for example, of 'most people choose to buy herp supplies online, rather than shopping in a large chain pet store'.
Just bear in mind that the large chain pet store over here in the UK doesn't really sell herp supplies anyway...so it's pretty much a given that people will shop elsewhere  _________________ Sophie
