As Paul says a higher shutter speed would certainly help with the flight shots..they do seem very soft and slightly blurred..were you using the lens at 300mm?..this would explain the softness and slight shake.. Cool

Yes the lense was at it's max-300mm.

If those were your shutter speeds then no they aren't too high if your using the 300mm end of the zoom. Are you shooting in auto mode? There are so many other aspects that could be to blame i.e. iso?..aperture?..etc..

There not to high taking the crop into account your 300 mm lens is actually 480mm thus the shutter speed should be a min of 500/s to avoid shake and to freeze action you will want it faster than that like double it

the 100-300 is a bit soft @300 but nowhere near that soft whack the 300d into TV mode and set the SS to 500 and see what you get you may need to up the iso to 400 depending on how good the light is on the day

you can get away with much lower shutter speeds for static images but will probably need a tripod or monopod if your using 300mm upwards.
