Generally speaking the North American ratsnakes are the easiest to care for. Corns are a good start, they are usually fairly pallid.

Depends on the individual snake, I know one corn who is a nutter, but a lot more that are puppy tame. If you acquire a hatchling it may bite until it gets used to you, but it really isn't much to write home about!

any snake will bite you if you annoy it enough...

Take a look at my care sheet at http://www.reptilefanclub.co.uk/care.htm and that should answer a lot of your questions. you can also see my corn snakes on my site http://www.reptilelover.co.uk

Pituophis every time for me (for an easy starter snake), Bulls, Pines, Gophers. Character(all bluff......most of the time Laughing ), handleable size, feed like pigs and just great(ask Maureen about my blacks!!). I even bought some again recently because I miss them so much!!!

Don't get me wrong I like rats/corns, never met a fussy pit tho'!

Cheers

Mark
