zarozinia... i've found chameleons, natures hidden jewels on amazon, Petr Necas, is this the same? it'd be great if you could find out about the mesh for me, thanks

and to everyone... i will be keeping them separately now i have been fully informed, wouldn't want to risk stressing them at all. and i will be using no substrate as recommended Smile

lee... don't worry, i'm going to look after them very well! although i don't fancy having crickets running free around the house so maybe i'll forget the flexarium, but what about the screen terrariums, are they any good? what are they in at the moment? will i still need to buy a smaller viv to start off with if i'm getting them at 3+ months old? Confused

mcfluffin... would you still recommend i turn my viv on its side if i'm not splitting it? (just going to buy a second viv for the female) is it better to be longer and shorter (4 foot wide 3 foot tall) than shorter and taller (3 foot wide 4 foot tall)?

You could definitely still turn it on the side and split it...or just keep the male in there and keep the female in a separate 2x2x3 viv...introducing her into the big viv for breeding Very Happy

mcfluffin... i think it'd be too small for them when they are fully grown though so i may as well just buy the female a separate one now. and then i don't have to mess about removing the divider when they are ready to breed. so it should still go on its side even if i'm not splitting it? would probably be better anyway coz then i can have the female viv on top and save a bit of space!

do you keep panthers? and would you recommend a screen terrarium for the female? are there any other books you'd recommend (related to panthers)? i also hope to breed them so is there a definitive book for that?

a little bit off the topic but i was just wondering...would they know if another chameleon had been in their viv? like if the male were to go in the female viv whilst i had her out, when i put her back in (with him out) would she know he'd been there? just a bit curious if they can sense it? Confused

i presume it would stress them to know this as they'd be wary that the other chameleon was still there somewhere?

The flexariums are fab for putting them outside in the summer when temps are appropriate - just make sure they still have things to climb on and provide them with shelter from the sun if they want it.

We have housed a male and female oustalets cham adjacent to each other in seperate enclosures, they could not see each other as the cages were solid (with screen fronts). The female started to change colour very rapidly followed by the male, so they both knew there was a cham of the opposite gender within their vicinity. Maybe Pheremones were responsible...

Not all chameleons are intolerant of each other, but generally in the wild they have their "own space", or territory, which in truth is usually much larger than the average vivarium, so although they may be fine living in the same vicinity in the wild, it would often be fool hardy to expect them to define territories in a vivarium, (unless it was VERY large) and it could lead to stress which can have a negative impact on their health.

Hi Jen,

Aluminum Enclosures are the best for panthers. Terry Thatcher sells them and I also stock them. For a female you could use a 24x24x24 or 18x18x36. If you have trouble with ambient room temps, you can block 3 sides with MDF to maintain a steady temperature.

Panthers cannot sense each other and leave no chemical trail like Monitors for example.

I dont have a problem keeping your animals back a little longer if you are new to the hobby.

lee... i am new to the hobby, except for looking after a veiled chameleon briefly, but i'm hoping to be ready as soon as they are ready to come Smile

where can i get the aluminium enclosures from? i've search on the internet and have seen them but no prices or how to order? Confused

would the 24x24x24 or the 18x18x36 be better? or is it just preference?

when will the male be ready to go? and is it ok if i come for them together? long drive! if not its ok though. did you manage to get any pictures?
