Thanks Rick.
The plastic tubs that I use for my locusts to lay in, (sort of like a miniature contico really) come with a lid anyway so I think I am going to take Scott`s advice and start the regime of taking the tubs out of the breeder bins every three days, putting the lids on them (maybe with one or two tiny holes drilled) to keep the moisture in, incubate them , watch for hatching and then put the tub in a fresh bin and take the lid off.
I think that will make a big difference. So simple too, why I didn`t think of it before I don`t know! Especially when the tubs I use come with lids! Cheers Scott! _________________ YSBRYDOLI POBL, GWELLA LLEOEDD

Cool. I have found looking for complex answers to things is not always the best way forward, quite often it's what is staring us in the face is the actual answer but we don't see it for looking!
I have found though that as I have gone on with things like breeding locusts etc, that I learn from my mistakes, or even just learn how to do things better by trial and error rather than doing things in a complex time consuming manner!

Well just as an update, since following Scott`s advice on putting the lids (perforated slightly) back on the egg laying tubs once they have been taken out of the main breeding bin to "cook", my locust population has quite literally "taken off". Cheers for the advice.
Lily pad, would you be so kind as to PM me your wax worm breeding recipe please, it`s the adult moths that I am after in number, thanks _________________ YSBRYDOLI POBL, GWELLA LLEOEDD

Hi Jan, thanks. You`ll be over run with locusts before long. I am getting a fresh batch hatching daily now.
Sexing adult locust`s isn`t that important as they`ll work it out and you`ll see the males riding round on the female`s backs and you`ll be able to tell yourself then. Depending on the species, if you have the same one that I have, the leaf eater rather tan the grass eater, the males tend to have a much brighter yellow abdomen, the female`s is more of a wheat colour, plus the females tend to be that little bit longer.
Thanks again for the wax worm recipe and good luck with the locust`s. Just keep them dry and warm basically, don`t let them run out of food, and make sure the laying medium for the females is 10cm deep and moist. You`ll have hoppers everywhere in ten day`s or so! _________________ YSBRYDOLI POBL, GWELLA LLEOEDD
