I've seen juveniles more of a block green colour, the white speckling was absent. Have never seen babies before so didn't even know they went through a brown to green colour transition  I suppose if you like them but don't have the funds you could always just get a P. baroni!

What size were the green young that you saw? The brown ones that I saw could not have been very old at all.
Can anyone tell us? Are they always brown on hatching or are some green? If not, what sort of age do they change colour?

It was definately past hatchling age, possibly a yearling. No where near as large as Ian's in this post...

Right, and you say it didn`t have the speckling. Well until someone tells us, from what we have both seen put together, it looks as if they start off straw brown and change green gradually perhaps. I wonder if there is an evolutionary advantage to the young being a different colur, do they live in a slightly different habitat to the adults perhaps?

As babies they seem to be a pretty uniform browny gray, and slowly turn green, my adult female still has a patch that is hasn't turned yet.
She also appears to be gravid, fingers crossed. |
