Can't say I agree with that mix of species but YES mixed species vivs can work real well but aren't something that can be rushed and just thrown together. _________________

It says:
This unit now contains one Red-Tail Boa, one Green Basilisk, one Chinese Water Dragon, one Madagascar Day Gecko, and one White's Tree Frog all living together.
The only trouble is that 3 days ago there was 7 Madagascar Day Gecko, and 9 Whites tree frogs.
I would of thought the only reason the day gecko is still in there is that the water dragon hasnt seen it yet or its a baby. _________________ www.Reptilebreeder.co.uk

that is weird. definitely not recommended. i have seen things like treefrogs, fire bellied toads, geckos and anoles together, also at marwell zoo they have a great display viv containing:
- green tree frogs
- golden mantella
- day gecko
- green anoles and for a while a senegal chameloen, but they have moved into a new setup.
mixing snkaes with lizards and frogs is an awful idea, (unless it is a green snake, as they only eat crix) _________________ Tom

Well thats what i was thinking, they do make nice looking vivs, but dont seem to have much of an idea about what lives in them ....
We'll go back to that site in a few days and it will say 'contains 1 Red-tailed Boa ...." ..
But hell at least he'll have more room... _________________ Cheers

Can't say I have a problem with mixed vivs in general, but I must admit I'd have thought the boa would have eaten the WD and the Basil. Saying that, we bought a boa once which lived in a viv with a plated lizard - they'd lived that way for years apparently. We separated them when we got them though.
Also, if the boa gets to any size it will trash all the nice planting. If it's an adult Giant day gecko, the WD or Basil shouldn't bother it. The WTF should be ok as well.
I have had basils in with Iggys and WD, but only in big (zoo) enclosures. In a smaller viv like that there will be alot of interation and the potential for stress. |
