Right I've been going around the local supermarkets, fishmongers and so on my dad has given me a polystyrene box its about 1/2" thick and its quite big 2ft by say 1ft (roughly). just wondering whats the best thickness for one i know the thicker it is the better it will keep the heat in.
edit: opps think this is in the wrong part could a mod move it please |

ok right i got all the equipment from Rick (great service yet again).
ive got my heat mat at the bottom attached to a mat stat then ive got another poly box on top of that but with no lid with a box of damp vermiculite to test things out and a thermometer that reads at both end and one end is in the tub of vermiculite then i have a lid on the whole thing ( i have most likely confused everyone who reads this now) will get some pictures soon,
just wonder how people set there up do you add holes to help cool it down if the room gets hotter? and so on? |

I have got a polybox incubator running at the minute on a pulse stat. When i was testing mine out i did use a mat stat but the temperature range was far too much for my liking, it regularly swung between 5-6 degrees so you might have problems with that.
I have my heat mat on the lid, i only have one polybox with my egg box sitting on a wire rack to allow heat to circulate around it. Also i have a couple of bottles of water in there as well which is meant to help keeps the temperature more stable. |

hmm whats the different about having the heat mat on the lid oppose to the bottom,
once the bottled water heats up does it act like a radiator? |

Not sure what difference it will make having on the bottom rather than the lid don't know which would be best as only tried it on the lid. As far as the bottles are concerned i only put them in their because i have read their meant to help. Its my first year with eggs so I'm by no means experienced lol |
