I am contemplating joining the IHS and thought membership would be 5 or 10 quid or somewhere inbetween, but I looked on the site to find that it was double that!
Do you get anything for becoming a member, aside a newsletter? Seeing as we can now attend the IHS shows without being a member.. What benefits are there to joining?
Maybe its because I'm a student lol but £20 quid seems a lot to me..
I'm expecting to join and gain access to a top secret forum or something! _________________

Ah, that sounds better! The site looks more impressive too.. shame I can't join via paypal though!
Can anyone tell me what's included in a family ticket? Is it the typical "2 adults, 2 kids"?
Thanks for both your replies! _________________

A lot of these associations seem like a good idea at the time, I joined the Global Gecko Association last year and really wonder why I bothered now!
Like others have said, there are plenty of good web resources that dont cost you money, we all spend enough cash on our reps as it is! _________________ Kind Regards,

The idea of the FBH is to support the actual reptile keeping hobby and allows us to have a voice when it comes to new regulations.
This benefit most people won't see or think about, whereas the second benefit of joining is gaining access to almost ALL uk run shows, that would otherwise mean you join 3 or 4 societies to be able to go to the shows. _________________

we joined the IHS and we go regularly to the meetings. At the meetings there is usually a speaker of some sort, some are more interesting than others, the most useful thing to us about joining has been the opportunity for networking and building up connections with other people who have a lot of expertise, this can be incredibly helpful. There is usually someone at the meetings who will have an answer if we have any problems. Occasionally members who are breeders will offer their stock for sale to IHS members at a lower price than usual.
What you get out of it pretty much depends on how involved you want to be - if you want to go regularly to the meetings its very worthwhile, if you are not keen on going then it probably doesnt merit the membership fee, especially since it may now be possible to get into the shows as a non-member - last weekend's show at Doncaster was open to the general public for the first time. _________________ .."since using your new shampoo, my hair has come alive.... signed, Medusa.." |
