A problem i have come across in fire bellies is the dulling of the colours especially the red underside, does anyone have any advice on how to stop or reduce this? |

you could gut load your insects with a colour enhancing fish flake and carrot - these things i believe help with colouration more than anything _________________ Eyeless frogs welcome...

yep this is true i was told this also by my fire bellie breeder if you buy fish flake with colour enhancer in it feed your crickets the flake witch passes thrugh inside them. feed your fire bellies the crickets and their colours should brighten in theory. but i was told this it only works as they are youngsters i have a full green toad now 1 half green and 1 black getting their also their bellies were a cream colour after a couple months i can see a light red or dark orange comming on great. hope this helps vince. _________________ Leopard Geckos

The fish food have not heard of, sounds feasible though, also the carotene is something I thought of but want other keeper opinions first, something maybe to consider also is Canthaxanthin, maybe the three in managed doses to prey items could work on this problem?
Thoughts?

I don't think the top colour is much related to diet, perhaps light levels or something.
The red, you can supplement their diet (via gut loading), but watch out, cantaxanthin can be harmful, so you have to be careful not to overdose.
No idea what the fish foods have, but if so, nice low levels, in a easy ready made gutloader! |
