How does this work?

Just had a company on the phone offering me agency staff for £5 per hour and £5.20 at weekends...now that's a fantastic rate for my company to pay BUT how on earth can that be legal? minimum hourly rate I thought was £5.05 for over 21's? take into account the 11% odd that an employer has to pay on top of that, this comes to £5.40, if you add on holiday too (legal requirement!) it comes to £5.85 cost for the agency....yet they want just £5.00 from me??

Are they really contributing £0.85 towards my staffing costs or are they taking advantage of their staff Evil or Very Mad ....I know which I think it is!

Anyway, they are sending me all info and quotes in writing, also signing to say they meet all their legal requirements...once I recieve this I will pass it on to the relevant government dept Razz Wink

lol........old timer Embarassed ...I'm not old...just had a real hard life!

Doubt it's all under 21's, even if it were they still couldn't legally supply them @ £5.00 per hour...if they were under 18 they might just have a chance...is there a min wage for under 18's?

Taken from BBC website

Minimum wage for under-18s
Fast food worker
Young workers may get a better deal
A £3 minimum wage for 16 and 17-year-olds is to be introduced from October 2004, the government said.

Trade Secretary Patricia Hewitt said she made her decision based on advice from the Low Pay Commission.

The commission had found "continued evidence" that young workers were receiving little or no training and "exploitative" rates of pay.

TUC boss Brendan Barber said: "Unions will be delighted that their campaigning has paid off."

October change

The minimum wage for over-21s will rise in October from £4.50 to £4.85 an hour.

For 18 to 21-year-olds it will go up to £4.10 from the current rate of £3.80.
