My rankins isnt very old and he ate really well on crix until i ran out of crickets and i accidently ordered small locusts instead of the right size crix and so i fed my rankins the small locusts instead. now hes eaten all the locusts and hes back to crix but hes not as keep on his crix as he was before. i had a pot of medium phoenix worms and fed him the last one today. Hes a big fan of them but are they a good idea as a staple that is. Ive read that the are fine as a staple and i know they are very high in calcium but low in phosperus and too much of each of those can be dangerous cant they?? i have no probs buying phoenix worms and lil locusts if he likes them but if they arent a good diet then hell just have to put up with crix.
wot shall i do? _________________ Dante (rankins dragon)

Locusts of the right size are a great diet for him. I would keep the phoenix worms as a supplement rather than a staple diet. Crickets are a good standby though and I would try and give him both. _________________ YSBRYDOLI POBL, GWELLA LLEOEDD

As PP said Locusts are a great staple. I stopped feeding crickets to any of my charges years ago and havent looked back. |

why do they do that? Just sudenly decide that they want locusts for instance instead of crix when he has been on crix his whole life. Hes not eating many crix which is worrying me. I can get some locusts wednesday but until then will he be ok with just the odd cricet he fancies to eat? _________________ Dante (rankins dragon)

9 times out of 10 most species of lizard will choose locusts over crickets. I suppose it`s a bit like offering me cheese on toast or a roast dinner. No choice really. _________________ YSBRYDOLI POBL, GWELLA LLEOEDD

yeh to put it in perspective I spose the roast dinner wins. But why is that? is it just taste, texture, easier to hunt??? _________________ Dante (rankins dragon)

The way that locusts move in comparison to the way that crickets move is the key factor in my opinion. Definately stimulates more of a feeding response. _________________ YSBRYDOLI POBL, GWELLA LLEOEDD
