Whilst on my 'quest' to get some money from advertising & forum sponsorship to help pay towards the running costs of the site, I thought it could be good to actually donate some of that money to a Reptile Conservation Project of some sort.

Now being that we receive very little in the way of revenue at the moment obviously the total £'s raised via this alone wouldn't be much at all but I would be willing to donate 20% of any money generated via this site (sponsors or advertising) to a choosen project, I also thought about adding a DONATE button to the site.

The Donate button would be there for forum members or guests who may wish to donate to the choosen reptile conservation project, after all I'm sure there are quite a few people who 'earn' a little from breeding/buying/selling reptiles and reptile related items, it's always nice to 'give a little back' Wink

Anyone like this idea or want to expand it further?

If enough think it's worth doing, then I will set up a paypal Donate button and then members can suggest bonafide Reptile Conservation Projects. We will then put them up for voting on. The winning project will get all donations for 6 months / 1 year (again, need to decide on timescale), after that time we open up again for more project suggestions.

So what do you guys/girls think?

Fully agree, we all get so much pleasure from our hobby / passion, that I think we should put something back. Personal choice obviously.

Great idea Scott. Cool My first suggestion would be that of perhaps donating to a conservation project involving our native endangered species such as the smooth snake and sand lizard.

Peter,
Have you a link to a specific project?

Like I said I think it's best if we all suggest different projects then vote on them to see who we go with first.

Mine suggestion is http://www.ircf.org/projectheloderma/ but I would be happy to donate to most projects
