Curious to see how many others breed there own rodents? Also, what diet are you feeding them?

I'm currently using a high protien dog biscuit, works well as it's very hard which stops the mice & rats just chewing it to dust!

No longer have a need to breed my own, would work out cheaper for me just to buy the few I need now. How bigs your breeding group/s?

I started back in March of this year with just 10 females, it now numbers 35 cages of 1.6 and a further 9 cages of 3.20 and plus about 400 growing on (waiting for a new mouse bank to arrive).

Not sure what the strain is actually called but it's new and is doing really well, didn't slow down with the hot weather either.

well, new mouse bank turned up Saturday night, by the time I went thru the stock that was growing on, I managed to fill it already!

If anyone is looking for a good strain of mouse, pm me and I can supply some.

have you ever added fresh blood to them?

I know all hamsters in captivity came from just one litter but 4000 from from 36 is pretty good going too!

I am just starting to add some new blood to them, Not because I am having any problems with them. Just because i don't want any

adding new blood lines is always risky though(?), I've been told of 'decent' highly productive strains going down the drain when new strains have been added, might just be a 'forum myth' though Wink

yep, been breeding mice for about six months now and it's been really successful. I feed mine on a mix of rabbit food and dog pellets and that's been working well for me. They also get the odd treat of dried fruit and nuts to add variety and added nutrients.

This week my only multi-mammate pair produced their first litter of eleven pinks so I'm very hopeful for that new project too. Most impressed with a litter of eleven in a first attempt.
