hi i'm looking after a friends herman tort its only a baby i just want to ask if he has the set up right its got uv and a bulb but he has also added a heat mat under the hide we used a exo terra dial therm i no these arn't that accurate but it was reading 110 under the bulb is this dangerous
their is no thermostat i'm worried it is to hot advise please.

I know nothing about torts, but I'd say get your friend a dimming stat and good digital thermometer. Smile
Also, I'd say get rid of the heat mat. Confused

As mememe says, you don't need a heatmat - room temp overnight is fine. Also, the basking spot does not need to be that hot; move it further away, reduce the wattage on the bulb or plug it into a stat...

Keeping Med tortoises too warm stimulates their appetite, which doesn't help when trying to grow them naturally i.e. slowly.
