My fruit bats have really settled in now. I have not attempted to handle them and have worked away close by to them and let them get used to me being around them. Tonight it paid off. Whilst the female Morticia is still very shy, and never takes her eye off me, the male animal whom I have called Gomez, will relax a lot more in front of me.
This evening when he awoke, he did his nightly tour of the hallway and landing, and then did his bathroom and shower rail inspection. _________________ YSBRYDOLI POBL, GWELLA LLEOEDD

After his inspection of the bathroom, he returned to the entrance where i was standing and landed about two feet away from me. He took a piece of banana from my fingers. _________________ YSBRYDOLI POBL, GWELLA LLEOEDD

That's excellent! You must be so pleased - i'm sure Morticia won't be too far behind
That must be so amazing just having a pair of bats just flying around, what i'd give to be in the position to own a pair of those!
Loving the names btw _________________ Sophie

Then he returned to her indoors who had been keeping a close eye on the whole proceedings. _________________ YSBRYDOLI POBL, GWELLA LLEOEDD

Thanks neep neep.
They really are interesting to watch. Not a lot happens in the daytime obviously, but after they wake up and finish their grooming and stretching session, it can be fascinating to sit still and watch them.
Now and again they will have a little tiff, and they sound like dwarves swearing in Japanese! _________________ YSBRYDOLI POBL, GWELLA LLEOEDD

I've got images of fighting Japanese dwarves in my head now. That'll keep me entertained for a while...
What sort of time do they wake up? Is it natural light dependent, or do you have a lighting system rigged up on a timer? _________________ Sophie

Natural day night cycle. They tend to start stirring around midnight, and are awake properly at about oneish. They are in total darkness then other than the infra red bulb which I have caged in inside the "cave".
They don`t seem to notice the red light and carry on as if it isn`t there.
I really am eating a lot healthier since I have had them also! Mango, papaya, grapes, figs, banana , pear and nectarine were on the menu tonight. Lovely! That`s my excuse for being awake at this hour, bat feeding! So what`s yours! _________________ YSBRYDOLI POBL, GWELLA LLEOEDD

Eating healthier? Right, I definitely need some fruit bats
Hmm, well, I wish I could claim that i'm up doing something interesting, but unfortunately i'm just writing up a report. Well, trying anyway... _________________ Sophie

Well don`t include me in your report! Perhaps wondering around in the small hours munching on fruit, could possibly be conceived by some as being "Batty" in the true sense.
If it does get to the stage where I am hanging upside down from the ceiling and swearing like a Japanese dwarf then perhaps you should write a report on it however.
Right, off to the ceiling er I mean bed now.
