I have what look like tiny black insects on the flowers of my hanging baskets. Think they are either of the above - I have not treated them with any pesticide......do you think I could knock some into a pot and feed to FBT's as a variety or is it not worth taking the risk?

Hundreds of them there!!

I feed aphids to my dart frogs. I have even gone so far as to deliberately "Infect" potted plants with aphids, and keep them in indoor propogators so as to have a year round supply. Smile

Your the one with the genetically modified hanging baskets in Swansea are you??

They wont attack young toads etc then I take it?

Would they live in plastic tubs with some greenery then I presume?

They are solely plant eaters. Wink

I keep my "infested" plants in Propogators with a strip light on top and the plants grow well complete with attached aphids.

As Peter said they are a fine food item, most of my juveniles and small species have aphids in their diets during the summer months, one year when my fruitflies crashed I raised a whole batch of B.variegata on mixed aphids alone. My favourite is the Water-lily Aphid (Rhopalosiphum nymphaeae) shame they are so difficult to culture. I've tried culturing Aphis fabae in the past but it was more hassle than it was worth.
