A great way of providing extreme basking sites for dwarf monitors, without over heating the cage is to use Basking Stacks, these are platforms of wood (mdf works well), stacked on top of each other with 1/2" to 1" gaps between each level.

You can make these stacks to within 4" or 5" of the spot bulb. The monitors will then bask at various levels throughout the day, you may find the top level is too hot to touch but the monitors will still sit there for ages!

more info here http://www.captivebred.co.uk/basking_stacks.htm

I'll try and post a photo or two.

Looks like you built that one whilst the lizard was in it!!..lol..they are certainly a good idea and should think helps them feel nice and secure as well as offering various temperature gradients.

lol.......yep, there's no chance of getting them out if they don't want to come out (as I found out yesterday when someone came to visit Laughing ).

Stacks are great, I would guess they would work well for a lot of basking lizards, Uros especially and maybe some of the smaller agamas. I will be adding a stack in with my uros soon.

as they are so cheap and easy to make try it and see if it does would be my answer there is no reason why not I would make one and try it if i kept beardys and wanted to find out at most it might cost you £10 to make

of course the gaps between the levels will need to be more for beardys but other than that shoudl work
