What does it take to justify a feeder farm for you? Laughing

For me... it's when my critters are eating me out of house and home by purchasing them fromt he store. I try to find feeders that can survive and breed on leftover food. Wink

The hard part is trying to guage how many feeders you need to get a stable colony or ranch going on.

Are you actually producing 200 a month atm? Is this mice or rats? Because I am not getting anywhere near 200 from mine.

But yes, when breeding your own works out better than buying but most of all, you know what type of life your mouse has had; and the diet they have consumed. Also knowing how long they have been lying around for aswell.

Simple maths to work on for producing your own rats and mice is ONE baby per female per week, this is based on average litters of 8 young.

So keeping a colony of 50 breeding female mice should produce 200 mice per month on average.

Of course these numbers can be higher if you have a good strain etc

My rats hit litters of 16 quite often Wink

ooooh I don't know how you could do that to a mouse, I don't mind feeding insects to my lizards but killing a mouse myself, I don't think I could do it. Rolling Eyes

CO2 does work for babies ... doesn't matter how big their lungs are, if there's no oxygen they're definitely not going to survive long!
