I was wondering if anyone keeps Coluber Hippocrepis, European Horseshoe whipsnake? Are they bred in captivity at all?
I know there are strict rules regarding the collection of herps from Spain/Portgual, is this why they are not in the hobby or do they just not appeal? |

whipsnakes were available wild caught many years ago, no idea on their current status. There was never much real interest in them and from memory they didn't seem to do too well, were quite defensive and very active (think they were quite 'musky' in smell too....long time ago so I may be wrong).
The Dutch Snake Society may be your best place to track them down (actually think it's change to the European Snake Society now???). _________________

Isn't this species protected in Portugal? _________________ 1,1 Elaphe dione; 1,1 Elaphe schrencki;

Oh, feel free to leave the apostrophes away.
You simply caught it and that's prohibited by law.
Making your own rules? Who do you think you are?
You should release it.

Didn't you understood???
I'll release it tomorrow!
If everyone respected these animals as I do, the number of snakes would be much higher. While some people like me photograph them, others will kill them...

The last 2 photos are real proof of your 'respect'.
What you do is illegal! It's as simple as that!
If every herper would act as you do, the species would soon be wiped out.
And bear in mind, I'm not your mate. _________________ 1,1 Elaphe dione; 1,1 Elaphe schrencki;
