My gravid female S.s. Bernardezi has been sitting with her lower quarters in the water tray for the past two days! Is she about to give birth?
Just her lower quarters the rest of her is out of the water.
Just a couple of pics to demonstrate what I mean and a couple of sectional shots of set up. _________________ www.rickslivefood.co.uk

Thanks
Only a few days, the plants need to grow and establish themselves, I am also cultivating some Kyoto Moss Spores to plant up on peat platelets.
I have some other forms of moss as well to that I am growing.
Just used black plastic shallow food containers for water pool, with Japanese shiny black pebbles in the bottom for grip and to hold jarva ferns down. Substrate bug bed moss and peat mix. Cork hides and mopani wood, and a few young terrarium plants. Freshwater arcadia light for plant growth tank 30x15x12 inches. All the sals have similar set ups. Just mist now and then and ensure water in pool is clean and treated.

Will be adding backgrounds to the tanks today to finish them off, they look bare without a background. Will also add to the sense of security for the sals.
I am also considering setting up some European custodian insects to add into the substrate once established, also as feeder items, and to help maintain the naturalistic environment. Worth a try to see if it works. _________________ www.rickslivefood.co.uk

She should lay fully formed little Sals on land, I've not bred bernardezi but I have some of the other subspecies and I've not noted that sitting in the water like this has anything to do with laying then again mine keep dropping larvae on the ground not in the water. _________________ Andrew Tillson-Willis

When your female is gravid Andrew, do you seperate her from the male and the larvae from the main tank straight away? _________________ www.rickslivefood.co.uk

I leave the adults in place and just remove the larvae as soon as I notice them. _________________ Andrew Tillson-Willis
