HI.im new to the forum & computers.i would like some advice if possible.i have a cb 8/2/06 horni.whats the best way to go about getting it used to being handled.(i know they generally dont like it).it is still at the stage of fleeing when i open the viv doors.if ijust sit watching it is ok (goes about its buisness, feeding, basking, toilet etc.the first couple of weeks i left it alone to settle in.im now handleing it every day for about 20mins at a time.i know it takes time but would be interested in other peoples advice (especially argus keepers). p.s great website.(my favourite).

thanks for your comments.

As for your argus, patience is the only tool you need....lot's of it!

You have a few ways of helping, sometimes placing the viv in a busy room will speed up the process of the lizard being comfortable when people approach (although this can also cause the lizard to hide away to). I have some tristis monitors that are very shy, being a tree monitor I thought I would raise the viv position to the highest point, so they could look down at me, this helped straight away and they stopped hiding when I entered the room. Although they did still hide if I opened the cage.

Food is another way, but again it can have a bad result too....ie. he associates your hands with food! (not good when he's bigger...lol). My tristis now also come out when food is offered. This took many months.

Good luck.
