|
|
hi all , im in the middle of compiling a business plan so i can get funding from the princes trust to open a exotic pet outlet , the problem im having is finding sources to prove the exotic pet market is growing, i need quotes from reputable uk sources to prove this, but i dont know were to look if any one could point me in the right direction i would appreciate it, i know a lot of users are in the trade , so it would be great if you guys could share your experiances with me, im based in middlesbrough were there is a shortage of knowledgable pet shops most give wrong advice to customers and are just in it for the money resulting in loads of mistreated pets, so i know a specialist reptile shop is needed, i just need to prove it
cheers |

ask the FBH for help, or even better REPTA, they are the Reptile Trades 'offical' spokes people, track down Eddie Munt or Chris Newman, both can be contacted through the FBH website http://www.f-b-h.co.uk/ _________________

so ive has a bit of a set back today
last month i had a interview with someone from the princess trust, i took my market research, business plan, and answered all of his questions after speaking with the guy for over a hour, he told me every thing seemed in order, and made perfect financial sense, he was happy to get the ball rolling, and that my business plan would get put too a panel who would decide whether or not i would get the financial backing I requested from them, half loan, half grant, he went on too say i shouldnt worry about this as he couldn't see any thing to prevent this from happening, well that said
today after waiting for over a month and turning various job offers down (you cant be in full time employment and receive support from the princess trust) I received a phone call explaining to me that my business idea had hit a brick wall, the problem is as a royal charity organisation the princess trust cant seem to tred on the toes of other royal charity organisations ie the RSPCA who we all know are anti exotics, they have to take all the RSPCAs anti propaganda as fact, so unless I can prove to them that exotics are suitable as pets and that no new legislations are going to come in affecting our hobby and jepordising my business and more importantly to them their investment I cant progress, if i do attempt to do this, i will have to start the process all over again which would mean another two months of waiting about twidderling my thumbs, which i cant afford anyways so thats that i guess buerocracy at work two months wasted and for what
doesnt matter though im gonna consentrate on my breeding projects get a few new ones of the ground and build a business and reputation up for myself that way feck em all, ill prove them wrong
rant over if youve read all that youll be ready for bed if you wernt all ready but its out my system now |

Mattie I am sorry to hear you hit a brick wall. It may not feel like it now but all that planning and doing a BP etc will stand you in good sted for the future, all experiences are inevitably good, just some of them don't seem like it at the time! Good will come from your efforts, be positive and don't let em grind you down!
I wish you the best of luck mate.
I used Kent Business Link last year to access NVQ training opportunities for my employees. They sourced Government funding and I managed to get a large number of staff trained for free. Business Link are tops.

Matt,
What if I was to tell you that the Princes Trust has already 'invested' in an Exotic Pet shop....Reptiles! I believe that they have recently given them another cash injection too!
Would that info help _________________

Thanks for the encouragement rick , I cant knock the people at the Business Link, they've give me nothing but support and advice booked me on loads of courses and workshops, my advisor has been in touch today, I've got a appointment with him Monday, He reckons i just need to highlight exotics suitability as pets more, so i,ll see what happens |
