Very Happy true macro lenses are fixed focal length lenses that offer 1.1 reproduction..to and extent it is a bit of a marketing gimmick although they do focus slightly closer than some lenses.. For landscapes you need a wide angle mate..something like the 10-20mm or even something in the 17-55 range..

I have been looking at new camera and lenses , can I add another zoom to be considered .

Instead of the 70 - 300 EF IS USM have a wee look at the 55 - 250 EF-S IS.

the USM has metal mount ( other dont ) the USM is not ( so review says ) any quieter or faster than the non USM . There is NO full- time manual overde on the USM . More importantly the review states that the optical quality in the USM was not as good as the non USM , esp in terms of sharpness and image clarity.

Canon EF-S 55 - 250mm ( f/4-5.6 IS ) £199

Canon EF 70 - 300mm ( f/4 -5.6 IS ) £369

the EFS scored 92% in the review ( PhotoPlus , July edition )

the EF scored 75%

Disclaimer !!! I am NOT knocking the 70 - 300 USM here ( its a cracking lens ) all Im doing is offering another alternative
