Before anybody gets the wrong idea, this is purely a question asked out of curiosity after a conversation I had a while back. Again, it's one of those subjects I just want to know a bit more about for reference.

A friend of mine in the states has recently had one a beautiful clutch of 24 baby boas and I spent a good deal of time fawning over the photos she showed me Wink She, rather tongue in cheek, suggested she could send me one as a relative owns an international shipping company.

Now, whereas I wouldn't put a snake through that kind of stress purely to add another to my modest collection, especially seeing as boas are not hard to come by over here, it got those cogs turning and I wondered, what exactly are the regulations regarding the receipt of herp cargo from other countries? Do the usual quarantine laws apply and if so, can anyone clarify what that would entail? Just a very brief run through of what happens when herps come into or leave this country is what I'm after really Smile Just curious!

Cheers!

hi,

Overall 'on paper' it's a very simple task but in practice it's hard work.

There's NO quarantine, once landed in the UK and cleared by CITES / Defra you can take them straight home (after of course paying the tax, shipping, handling, AQS, agents fees & clearing fees)

There's also the hassle of CITES permits, simple enough to get but can take 6-9 months in the USA but normally once you have your USA copy the UK side takes about 3 weeks.

Thank you Smile

Yeah, I figured it's always gonna be a lot of hassle but after talking to my friend and her saying that I started to wonder what the process actually is!

I'm perfectly happy with the range of herps available to me in this country so I won't be looking overseas any time soon Wink
