Was just wondering if anyone knows of any breeding data available on Pyxicephalus adspersus, the African bullfrog? All the books say hormone use. I`m not sure if I like that idea much and know nothing about it. I was thinking maybe keeping them dry for a few months, and then giving them a rain storm of sorts might work. Also, does anyone know where I might find an audio recording of the males breeding call, as exposing the frogs to it during/after the rain storm was my other idea. All comments welcome. My male is huge. Will post some pics of him feeding in the near future.

Hi Peter,
I currently keep Lepidobatrachus laevis. Although I have never got them to spawn they get aestivated twice a year. I can post more info about this if you go down that route.

As for calls? Does your male call just now? Best bet is to record it and play it back to him. You can get one minute continuous tapes and play it back to him.

I tried this with Budgett frogs but ended up just getting two more males.

cheers
Colin

I've recorded Dendrobatid calls on my mobile and played it back to him and other males all of which responded, think it was with adult terribilis, was pretty funny to watch but worked really well in practise Cool

No my male is not calling. How long have you aestivated your animals for? What temperature were they at too? Like the idea of recording with the phone, but I need it to get him going in the first place! Bit chicken and egg (or frog and spawn!)
