Went to look for grass snakes yesterday at a place called Naardermeer. Didn't find any unfortunately, although my friend saw one, but it didn't wait around for me to arrive.
I did see some other things
not sharp, but liked the pose

I love these

closeup

see all the nice little sticky drops? Cool

Did see lots of frogs

And nice flowers

Its a nice place to visit, lots of birds. We saw 3 species of heron, blue, purple and egret. Lots of cormorants, songbirds, geese, ducks etc.

Sounds a nice place Ron, overall when I drive through Holland I get the impression that there are too many wild spaces (even the trees in the few woods I've seen were all in straight lines Laughing ). Is that right or am I just unlucky in the places I drive through?

If you mean there are NOT too many wild places, then yes you are right, especially near the main highways. People say sometimes there isn't a square meter in the Netherlands that hasn't been used by man in one way or another Laughing

Too true, in this case a four spotted chaser, Libellula quadrimaculata. Cool

That`s the great thing about natrix sites, there is always so much other wildlife around if the snakes aren`t going to oblige. Wink

Thanks Stu, with 300 mm, handheld AND a breeze it could have been a lot worse Laughing I really like dragonflies and I'm going to try and make more and better pics of them. There's a park in the Netherlands where they have found a total of 40 species of dragon- and damselflies! I hope to go there later this year.
