Questions questions
I am currently setting up one of my 3x2x2ft viv for some cresties.
They are part of a stack, and my royal will be going in the other. My leopard gecko and a spare are at the top.
1. Would you put the cresties in the middle, or at the bottom?
I have put a 25w bulb in one viv to check temps, as my house is very cold (between 66f and 70f). This brings one end up to 76f floor temp, and 88f ceiling temp (there is a heat mat above which also warms the ceiling).
The other end of the viv cools to room temp (as stated above).
2. Are these temps ok for cresties? I will fit the bulb to a thermostat so if the room temp rises the viv temps will not.
Thankyou! _________________ Anna

Hiya
Whereas the size of the viv is fine for quite a few cresties....I am not sure that a wooden viv is the best place for them. They require humidity, and quite a bit of ventilation, all of which a wooden/laminate viv might not be able to provide without something adverse happening to it or the environment. The wood might warp with all the spraying they will need, and with not enough ventilation, could cause it to mould up. I also have a feeling they would get too hot inside, due to the wood holding the heat quite efficiently....might be an idea to get something like an exoterra for some cresties and putting a snake or leo in the extra viv in your stack.

88 is too hot for cresties .
anything over 80 is thought to be too much..
anywhere between 66-76 can be aimed for _________________ Eyeless frogs welcome...

I will line the viv waterproof covering, and it has a 3" ventilation strip the whole length of the viv.
Is that ok or would that still not be enough?
I read that optimum crestie temps were between 70f and 80f...the only reason the ceiling is that warm is because of the heat mat in the viv above, it is the surface temp of the wood. Still too hot?
Lots to think about.
Thanks for the replies. _________________ Anna

I think that you still run the risk of them overheating to be honest, its summer coming up, you will have heat mats in the other vivs above them and i think that to err on the side of caution, i would avoid the wooden viv scene.

I think im going to go with a glass exo-terra, going to sell my old stack and build another for the royal and leo with a space for an exo-terra to fit on to it.
Thanks for the advice everyone, i wouldn't want to risk harming the little guys when i get them _________________ Anna

theres nothing wrong with a wooden viv , if its properly waterproofed (or your prepared to renew after it warps) and there is enough ventilation strips .
ive just got my self a 4ftx3ft viv and there is plenty of space for them .
what you may have to do though is house it away from the stack , the external heat sources are going to affect the cresty viv _________________ Eyeless frogs welcome...

Yeah, i decided not to rick wrecking the stack. It took a lot of building and i'd rather get something for it and sort something more suitable out.
The crestie tank will be going either in top of the new stack well out of reach of the heat mats, or on a modified mini TV unit.
Havent decided yet. Thanks again _________________ Anna
