Hi,
I am thinking of getting some type of day gecko, although not a giant. I am a sucker for colours and wish to get a stunning species. I was just wondering if anybody could recommend or point me in the right direction as to names of some lovely day geckos.
Thanks,

I have P.Laticauda and P.Robertmertensi. Recommend them both. IF you can get hold of some, get some P.Cepediana _________________ A lil bit of Madagascar

I have kept and bred Day Geckos for over 10 years now and in my honest opinion, Phelsuma standingi are the best choice for the beginner ( assuming you are a Day Gecko virgin!! ). This species is pretty hardy and is more tolerant of lower humidity levels. They also display beautiful turquoise and sky blue colours as adults.
I note that you would prefer one of the smaller species but being honest, smaller species can be less forgiving if their exact requirements are not met. Neon Day Geckos P. klemmeri can be pretty delicate and could prove to be a very expensive baptism into the world of the Day Gecko.
Personally, i would suggest that you gain some prior experience with the hardier species before attempting to maintain the smaller, more delicate species. The Blue-tailed Day Gecko P. cepediana is best left to keepers with considerable experience. Sourcing a male of this species is like finding rocking horse poo!!! _________________ Fraser Gilchrist

thanks for your replies, I should have said I have kept P.Laticauda and P.Grandis, so do have some prior experience. Klemmeri looks really nice, if not too pricey I may go for one of those. I dont suppose it has to be a day gecko anyway, just a showy peacock of a lizard would do me:). Wish I could get another panther cham. but not got the space anymore.
Cheers,

Comments on N. grayii, very rare, very expensive and very hard to keep!
I have P. klemmeri and P. robertmertensi and both are nice. The klemmeri are slightly smaller but both pairs of mine are tame and eat from hands, breeding well and overall nice looking geckos! |
