There is plenty of ventilation!

Would it be any different for mice?

The ventilation in them is rubbish. I ended up putting 3 inch mesh vents in the sides for the mice. Then you have the problem of attaching the bottles in the sides, simple - you would think, but there's a lip on the outside meaning the bottles don't run flush which means the normal wire holder is too short meaning you have to improvise. In all, not suitable for mice, unless you have the time and tools to convert them and can risk loose mice/rats

I currently have around 18 "proper" mouse cages stocked as is normal for me, and have tried to make home made versions in the past. The only way i have found to "DIY it" is too use a very strong plastic box and make a lid for it, made entirely with mesh. Anything else simply is not good enough, and I would go so far as to say that to use those boxes in the picture would be cruel for either rats or mice.

buy tub blanket /contico size 23lx16x 7in 1/2 mesh and wooden frame, build the frame so it fit bit loose, so the frame sort of weigh down the mesh,

get a viv, cos you can stack vivs. and just keep them in there. a 4 ft by 2 by 2 viv could hold 8 rats. And rats like to climb, so thats what i would do.

At work we have group of 10 rats that share a 5ft long x 2ft wide by 3 ft high viv. The water bottle hangs from the mesh at the top along the back. they have lots of branches to climb about on
