Have to admit i did kind of skip over your post Embarassed , but to be honest i still feel the same way, Man is the catalyst that caused these animals to be put in an environment that they didnt belong, at which point the animals then do only what is natural to them, so in my view it is only Mankind that is destructive, i dont feel any blame can be placed at the animals door.

Laughing No worries John! The simple fact is that we agree entirely. I completely agree that mankind is the most destructive animal on the planet and is the catalyist where all alien species are concerned whether deliberately introduced or accidentally. My reply was to the following rather sweeping statement;

Quote. " The only destructive species on earth are humans".

There are in fact many. You also mention the word "blame". All blame concerning the presence of destructive alien species lies with man. This however does not mean that those alien species are not capable of being destructive in many situations. Would the behaviour (entirely natural to them of course) of the 3,000 mink released near a nature reserve containing ground nesting birds in Hampshire several years ago be described as destructive? Of course it would! The blame is with mankind entirely. The activities of the mink in this artificially created situation however can only be described as destructive.

Lynne,

I can see how the initial thread title may well have been misleading for you. You may well have thought quite genuinely that somebody had indeed lost their cat until Jackie added some text to the title.

I find it bizarre that you find my reply "hilarious" however. Your name is not being "dragged up" as you put it. I have merely quoted you and replied as is the standard method of communicating on forums. Smile
Forums are for discussing matters and sharing information. I was under the impression that that is precisely what we were doing. Wink

oh and as for humans not being the MOST destructive animal on the planet, i beg to differ. Cool

Once more, and hopefully for the last time;
I agree that humans are indeed without doubt the most destructive animal on the planet. Anyone who knows me will attest to my constantly banging on about it! Laughing

What I disagree with is your original statement which is quite different to the above, namely;

Lynne wrote:

I also thought that the earlier comment that you made....

Lynne wrote:
what the hell made you think some people might like it???

....may have come across as being rather heated. I wouldn`t say that I "like" the image. I do however find the subject material interesting.

None of the above is a personal attack on you Lynne. I apologise for repeating myself but the forum is for discussing matters relating chiefly to reptiles and amphibians. The above is just that. Life would be very boring if we just agreed with each other constantly. We can disagree without taking things personally. It`s what a good forum is all about. Wink

Have a chilled evening and I hope that you, your snakes, cats and other animals enjoy a long and happy life. Cool Wink

Graeme, whilst I think I understand what you were trying to express here, comments such as the above do not exactly go far towards calming what has already proven to be a potentially rather sensitive area.

oh we will peter we will, enjoy a long and happy life i mean. i think someone commented once on not being able to decipher the feelings in a written comment. be it text or a comment on here. i may have written 'what the hell........' but i may have been sitting here with a smile on my face. i often write 'oh ffs' but im laughing when i write it.
im not a person to get 'heated' i dont think. and as i have often said when asked 'how do you feed those wee cute mice to your snakes', i didnt personally know the mice so we were not emotionally attached, plus they were dead when i bought them.
as long as i didnt know the cat, or the steak lying on my plate, well thats fine. it was the shock of reading the title , then seeing the picture i didnt like.
maybe this can be put to rest. now i will brb, as i have a lamb chop waiting on me. Cool
