Hi all...
Was wondering if anyone kept Fischer's chameleons, and what experience they have had with them? I have the chameleon bible to read through, but it's nice to hear peoples' personal experience with animals too. Can they be kept communally, or are they happier on their tods?
Cheers _________________

I have had Fischer's multis and the species that I don't think has a name yet. All have been WC's.
Some come in and acclimate wonderfully but some come in loaded with parasites and some just don't acclimate no matter what you do. The ones that do acclimate seem to do well in captivity.
I have had eggs a couple of times, but I have obviously not had the incubation parameters right because they didn't hatch. |

Oops! Forgot that the previously un-named species is named now...its Kinyongia vosseleri. Also forgot to mention that the Bradypodion name has now been changed to Kinyongia too. (Kinyonga is Swahili for chameleon..the new name came from that.)
Here's the article on the revisions...

Thanks Kinyonga...the pair I saw were CB which is pretty nice (and I thought a bit unusual)...would be nice to continue producing some CB chams....do you think we get a sufficient temperature drop outside in the summer months if I were to leave them outside in July/August?
I reckon during those months the temperature doesn't drop much below the low 20s inside my flat, but outside I would think it does....I really need to find good local weather info for these months (it's hard to find good historical data on the MET website). When we start getting really hot days this year I am going to leave my thermometer outside overnight and see what minimum temperatures it records
Sorry to babble...just working out if it's a good idea or not to get some Fischers _________________

Looking at the enclosure size, I don't think I have the room for two 2x2x4 vivs I suppose with that very long prehensile tail they are pretty agile and active. Perhaps better to stick to something smaller/less motile _________________

Yes, I've kept the "Standard Fischer's" (K. multituberculata), the "Giant Monkey Tailed Fischer's" (K. matschiei), the "Undescribed Fischer's" (K. vosseleri) and the "Dwarf Fischer's" (K. tavetana). I kept K. multituberculata and K. tavetana individually in 2x2x2 enclosures and the K. matschiei and K. vosseleri individually in 2x2x4 enclosures. I think this group of species is highly under rated.

a bit unrelated but you've raised a pretty important concern for me in this thread... i'm gettting two panthers soon and hadn't considered summer room temps, am i going to need some form of air conditioning for the temp drop at night?? _________________ Jennifer |
