hi i would like to save up to buy a camera as i am thinking of taking photography up as a hobby i don't know nothing about high tech cams so any help would be great i would like to be able to take some decent close up pics of wildlife without getting to close as i usually scare them off trying to get closer Smile
i was thinking about the d40 nikon and was wondering what a good package would be if thats the best cam to get for your money ( not way expensive) but decent enough

The d40 is a nice little camera..as for getting close to wildlife you will need a good telephoto with a minimum of 200mm ideally 300mm upwards..this is where the expense starts to creep in..let me know what your budget is and I can advise further. Cool

For that money you could get the d40x and a kit lens and maybe an extra lens as well.. have a look here for some package deals http://www.warehouseexpress.com/?welcome.html&gclid=CLCal-zHoowCFQZhEAodDnozmg

Hubby said D40x has been discontinued (replaced by D60). If you want a D40x, you'll have to be quick. -- Keep your eyes out for some good deals on the remaining ones. Also if your budget will stretch a *bit* further, have a look at a D60, or D80.

If you don't mind reconditioned (by Nikon) kit there are some good deals on ebay at the moment.

I picked up a D80 (recon but as new with 1yr warranty) with an 18-55mm lens (new), 50-200mm lens (new) and 4GB card for just shy of £600.
