So much for having a happy new year! On friday night my partner arrived home from work to find our male juvenile beardie very lethargic sitting with his head back and moving like he was intoxicated, he bagan having seizures a short time later.

We immediately got him to our local reptile vet who was on call who immediately began treatment for hypocalcaemia which continued throughout the new year. Unfortunately on Sunday morning I found the seizures were worsening and Hercules' tail had begun to die at which point I made the sad decision to have him put to sleep Crying or Very sad .

Rest in peace little man, we may not have known you long but you bought us endless joy Very Happy .

Thankfully our female is still thriving despite the loss of her mate.

He was a lovely little guy and he will be sorely missed, it was the hardest thing I've ever had to do!

Kept trying to fathom out were I'd gone wrong, but as the vet said the female is thriving so it doesn't appear to have been a diet or husbandry problem, just wasn't meant to be Crying or Very sad .

if your husbandry was good and you was using all the right equipment then you could of done no more. with your dragon being young and you describing the seizures it sounds like it was a genetic disorder. theres that many ppl breeding clutch mates that its becoming more common sorry again

Thank you for your kind thoughts. I think I'm going to go further a field for a future cage mate.

when you choose your beardie look for 1 that is real alert and try to get the breeder to let you see him feed its a good indicator of a healthy beardie hope this helps you on chooseing one that is right for you lee
