I am currently using fours paws dial type thermometers. I have read that these thermometers aren't that good. Which type are the best for a viv with wooden back and sides?

use a digital thermometer with a probe thats what i use they are very accurate you can get them at your local pet store there about 5 quid. hope this helps lee

do you know anywhere online i could get one. Would i only need 1 then cos at the moment i have 2 one at the cool end reading 78/80 and the middle at 88/90 and i used one to set up the basking spot which goes to 110 before the thermostat kicks in

although I recommend that you have a thermometer in the viv, don't just stick to those temp ranges. Try to learn what you lizards are telling you in the way they act.

If they are always at the hottest end, as close to the heat source as possible, then your basking spot is too cold. If they are generally at the opposite end to the heat source, your ambient heat (and possibly basking spot) are too hot.

Yes, thanks scott. My beardie isnt eating the amount of crix that i hear veryone elses is eating or ate at his age. Hes 7 weeks 7" T/L and i put ten crix in the morning hell eat 2/3 straight away and lay on the branch either under the basking lamp or right under the uv tube. It will then take him 2/3 hours to eat the rest just picking on one now and again. The same then in the afternoon.I have read that a low appetite could be caused by low temps. I currently have the analogue dial type and have read that they can be inacurrate by up to 10*. Thats why i thought about the digital thetrmometer so i can double check that my existing thermometers are reading accurately.
