I hope I have posted in the right section, please feel free to move the thread if I have done it wrong, Mod / admin.

I have got this Giant Slow Worm for about a month now. It's a WC and fully grown adult. I tried to find as much information / care sheet on the net, but there's no many about the feeding. I did a search on this forum and I think there are a few members keep them too. So I would appreciated if any of you can give me some advise regarding feeding please.

When I first got Leroy (the lizard's name), the shop told me that they feed him with crickets, locusts, meal worms, dog food and pinkies. I have tried all these food as mentioned as well as cat food. The only food that Leory eats is pinkies / fuzzies. I dusted them before the feed and he usually just eats them without problems. But I am worrying that he only eats pinkies / fuzzies (I only just started to feeding him with fuzzies) but nothing else. What can I do? I don't really know how much I should feed him too. The shop told me that after they feed him pinkies, he does not usually want food the very next day. At the moment, I feed him daily with 4 - 5 pinkies or 3 pinkies and 1 fuzzie. He seems pretty contented after the feed. And he still eats the very next day without any problems. He polishes his food on the plate within minutes.

Other than that, can anyone tell me the set up should be. I have set up with UVB light and basking light, one cool area and one basking area and he seems enjoy the basking. I searched the net and some mentioned it's a waste with UVB light and some recommended it, so which one is the best. I put one in anyway since I thought all kind of lizards probably would benefit something from the UVB light if not get access to the outside daily. The substrate I use is play sand and he also has a big water bowl inside his tank.

So I appreciate if anyone can point out the right and bad things I have done and also help me out with the feeding. Thanks.

Thanks for the reply.

You mean large snails as our garden snails? Or the GALs? With shells?

if feeding snail's they should be Apple snail's which aren't cheap Sad
feeding common snail's from ya back garden can risk infection of the stomach as snail's harbor many bacteria in their own stomachs.
