I want to buy a ceramic bulb but I don't know what size I need. My vivarium is 36"x21"x15" (LxHxD).
I currently use a 100 watt spot light controlled by a Habistat Dimming thermostat. This does the job during the day as the bulb is very dim and my viv reaches the temperature I want, but at night the heat mat (on a thermostat) isn't reaching the required temperature. Would a 100 watt ceramic bulb be OK as this is the wattage of the spot light, or should I go for a larger wattage?

100 watts should be enough if the light bulb was running dimmer than full on. When you have it, you could scrap the heat mat.
The dimming stat will control the ceramic fine, better still is a day/night pulse or dimming stat which you can set to give a particular night drop.

Thanks for your advice John. I was hoping that would be the answer.
I have a small snake rack in the bedroom and the temperature in it is OK but the vivarium is in a cold dark hallway which gets very cold at night.
