I am a little bit confused about thermostat sensors, do i have to have one in a box or would it be ok, to just put it on the heat mat that i am using?

because currently me and my dad fitted it so that the sensor went inside one of the boxes in my rack, and that box conatins my new trinket snake, however i am moving him into a smaller box and to do this i have to remove the old one, so i cannot put the sensor into the new box as it is of a different design and is only temporary

thanks in advance

If you are using a paper substrate then they need to be on the substrate in the box otherwise they will shut off the heatmat while it is stoll sooler than the temp on the thermostatinside. Don't forget the plastic boxers add a bit of insulation and so this needs to be taken into account.

You can put it straight onto the mat, however, measure that temps (inside the box) with an independent thermometer, as the stat sensors are seldom very accurate. Adjust it up or down to get the desired temp. Cool
