No they shouldnt if not being fed at the same time. Obviously there can be other variants, but separation at feeding time or if its done under constant supervision usually results in two happy snakes.
All other points should also be covered, like correctr size vivarium and large enough hides at both the warm and cool ends for them to hide in. |

like stroudster say, they will be fine but just watch them at feeding time or seperate to feed (they may accidently try to eat the same mouse). _________________

and what size viv would you recommend for two? |

This is the grey rat snake i have at the moment. I don't plan on getting another until i have a large enough viv for both.
He's actually a little less orange than that, it's just a combination of poor lighting and a bad camera. lol |

the size difference would only be a big problem during feeding, unless you are talking hatchling with adult, then that's probably not a good idea.
As with the sexes, 2 males or 2 females would be fine, 1 of each would probably result in eggs being laid. 2 Males can sometimes 'wrestle' with each other during the breeding season if they can smell a female but no harm normally comes from that. _________________

ok so it would be bad if eggs were laid?
I was going to build a viv which would be 3ft long, 2 ft high and 2ft deep. Would that be large enough to house 2 grey rat snakes? |

lol..no eggs aren't bad if you're ready for them, just need to make sure there is an egg laying box and then have an incubator ready, then of course space for 10 - 15 more mouths to feed.
Space wise, grey rats are quite active, I'd go for 4ft by 2ft by 2ft with a few sturdy branches for climbing. _________________

well the tank was originally going to be for just the one snake, but decided that i would like another, so was really just wondering how big it would need to be.
so 4ft doesn't sound unresonable.
although, do you think it would be a good idea just to make it an extra foot higher?
was going to build it as a unit with cupboard and draw space. |

as with most cages, bigger is normally always better. _________________
