You may remember I had a rat loose in my reptile room a few months back, well last week I started clearing some racking out and moving things around and I was horrified to find this (see photo).

The cable was a soil heating cable that heated the bottom racking, I knew the rat had been chewing but I didn't see any signs of 'dangerous' damage. Anyway when I lifted the last rack up, I found this cable at the back. It had not only toasted itself but then also melted 2" into the polystrene that insulated the bottom rack. How on earth it never all caught fire is beyond me.

You can also see all the rat hair melted onto the cable, somehow the rat survived and carried on chewing for another month or so.

Shocked Exactly the same thing happened to me a long while back Scott, with the same result. How on earth there wasn`t more of a problem I don`t know. The rat survived in my case too. Would have been interesting to see it when it happened! Maybe that`s how rex rats are created! Confused Laughing

There was an old lady who swallowed a fly.
I dunno why she swallowed that fly,
Perhaps she'll die.

There was an old lady who swallowed a spider,
That wriggled and jiggled and wiggled inside her.
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly.
But I dunno why she swallowed that fly -
Perhaps she'll die.

There was an old lady who swallowed a bird;
How absurd, to swallow a bird!
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider
That wriggled and jiggled and wiggled inside her.
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly.
But I dunno why she swallowed that fly -
Perhaps she'll die

There was an old lady who swallowed a cat.
Imagine that, she swallowed a cat.
She swallowed the cat to catch the bird ...
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider
That wriggled and jiggled and wiggled inside her.
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly.
But I dunno why she swallowed that fly
Perhaps she'll die

There was an old lady who swallowed a dog.
What a hog! To swallow a dog!
She swallowed the dog to catch the cat...
She swallowed the cat to catch the bird ...
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider
That wriggled and jiggled and wiggled inside her.
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly.
But I dunno why she swallowed that fly
Perhaps she'll die.

There was an old lady who swallowed a goat.
Just opened her throat and swallowed a goat!
She swallowed the goat to catch the dog ...
She swallowed the dog to catch the cat.
She swallowed the cat to catch the bird ...
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider
That wriggled and jiggled and wiggled inside her.
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly.
But I dunno why she swallowed that fly
Perhaps she'll die.

There was an old lady who swallowed a cow.
I don't know how she swallowed a cow!
She swallowed the cow to catch the goat... She swallowed the goat to catch the dog...

There was an old lady who swallowed a horse -
She's dead, of course.
