....it has now been proposed to be placed within Pituophis and is currently being adopted by most current literature.

So what have we got now then Pituophis guttata? Won't be long before they just reassign everything to the simple term of SNAKE _________________

It's a great paper but pituophis has not being accepted yet (well not that I've noticed) - hell they still can't agree on the splitting from Elaphe lol.... _________________ www.ratsnakefoundation.org |

Thats it though it's just a proposal and has not been formally accepted by the International Commission of Zoological Nomenclature .. Pantherophis has not even been accepted yet by the ICZN .. only by some hobbyists who felt that the divide between new world and old world elaphe was needed. Burbrink has another paper coming out at the end of the summer which further clarifies the relationship between Pituophis and Pantherophis as well as all the other species of Lampropeltini. (Kings, Milks, Gophers, Glossys etc) But whether that is accepted by the scientific community who knows .. these are only proposals and taxonomy like any other science is always changing with new evidence.
Yep Burbrink's certainly radical in his thinking and a lumper .. other taxonomists could look at these two genera and with different methods come up with a totally different conclusion.
Be interested to know what current litterature you refer to ?
LMFAO .. Lou I've just previewed this and saw your reply ..

Makes for rather interesting reading but I'm not entirely convinced that this will become accepted at all... thanks for posting it here though, james. _________________ Regards, Tanya

TBH, if you try to rename the most popular snake in the world, it isn't going to be accepted for years _________________
