Start with a couple of 100, it's easier to produce extra and then cut back rather than struggle to produce enough.

never tried them, I use cardboard egg carton to create more surface area so I guess plastic would work just as well plus you can wash it after Wink

I have read that post along with many others around the net, it sounds relatively simple to do, yet so many seem to fail particularly on incubating.

I gave my mate a couple of fully grown adult locusts to give to his scorpions a while back and a couple of weeks later he came back with 14 little locusts for me and said that they were just hatching out of the soil in his emperor's tank.

I might try my hand at breeding them as from that it seems easy Very Happy

The same thing happens to me with crickets they breeding like wild fire in my vivs but do poorly in the cricket bin.
I’m going to set the locusts up in one large container with several inches of sand/soil, egg crates, and a good basking spot, I will leave them be to lay and hopefully hatch in the substrate. I will have a second large container on hand all set up so I can move them over for the monthly clean. To minimise the loss of eggs between transfer I will leave the first container to run for a while longer to give any remaining eggs the chance to hatch.

Thankyou scott, very good thread that is.
I interested in the heating side of things, they need to be ROASTING lol!
Does a heat mat provide the required heat range scott??
i like the idea of no lights,
Are your mats inside the boxes with the locusts or under the box??
What size is best??
