What a cutie! I love rats, but haven't actually seen pouched rats before. Do they grow much bigger than ordinary rats?

As one of the largest rat species in the world I would think so Shocked

From Wikipedia ....
Quote:
The Gambian Pouch Rat can grow to be as big as a raccoon and can weigh up to 4 kg.

Lou, have you just the one?

I have a pair together and the female totally bullies the male and won't let him move but when I seperate them she just cry's/squeaks and he gets even more 'depressed' looking.

Hello Scott

We have 2 pairs here, both pairs have females that were the dominanat females of their litters when younger, neither pick on their males (while im around) i cant say what happens when im away. they do alot of squeaking but i go in and they are all either eating or playing so i cant explain why they make this noise.

How old is the female compaired to the male? are they both mature? females have been known to bully unmature males until they reach maturity. if you seperate them again make sure you move her out clean everything out in his cage so none of her scent is left and then after about a week reintroduce, it will not be her terriotory anymore it will be his, this may make a difference.

They are wonderful animals aint they.

yep they are fantastic, the female is a complete character and really fiesty but friendly.

Both seem healthy and are the same age and have lived together for over 15 months.

Here's a vid clip of my pair http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=7403983026897725671

You had any signs of breeding?
